UPSC to organize Engineering Services Examination 2017 in January, 2017.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the examination dates of Engineering Services Examination 2017 dates on the official website.

The examination shall be conducted according to the following plan:

Stage-I: Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination (Objective Type Papers) for the selection of candidates for the Stage-II: Engineering Services (Mains/Stage-II) Examination

Stage-II: Engineering Services (Mains/Stage-II) Examination (Conventional Type Papers)

Stage-III: Personality Test

Stage I: Prelims

The Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination would comprise of two objective type (multiple choices) questions papers and carrying at least 500 marks (Paper 1-200 marks and Paper II – 300 marks).

There would be punishment (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a student in the objective type question papers.

One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there would be no penalty for that question.

The Examination shall consist of two papers:

Stage II: Mains

The examination shall comprise two papers:

Stage-III (Personality Test):

  • This examination will consist of 200 marks
  • Students should write the paper in their own hand
  • Deduction equal to five per cent of the highest marks for the written papers will be made for unreadable handwriting
  • Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour shall be allowed for the blind students and candidates with Locomotor Disability and Cerebral Palsy
  • Marks will not be selected for mere superficial knowledge
  • In the question papers, wherever required, SI units would be used
  • Candidates should use only international form of Indian numerals (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.) while answering question papers
  • Candidates are allowed to bring and use battery operated pocket calculators for conventional (essay) type papers only
  • It is also important to note that candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers
