CUK is one of the 15 new Central Colleges founded under “The Central Universities Act, 2009”. Central University of Kerala goals to expand the opportunity of learning through a holistic methodology that houses varied language, cultural traditions and scientific. The university has its HQs located at Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala and has state-wide jurisdiction. It released its doors in June 2009 with only 17 candidates, functioning from the transit campus in Vidyanagar along with the administrative offices and the University Library. Soon after, the university started the Riverside Transit Campus at Padannakad, 35 kilometers further south, which houses the science schools. The permanent campus of the University is being set up at Tejaswini Hills, Periye on a panoramic stretch of 310 acres of land beside the National Highway. In November 2013, the structure of the first set of buildings was accomplished at Periye. At present, 5 academic departments are operative in the permanent campus.
