Punjab and Haryana High Court is a High Court located inside the Le Corbusier-designed Chandigarh Capitol Complex which is in Chandigarh, India. It has its authority over the Union territory of Chandigarh, the State of Haryana, and the State of Punjab. As on 21st March 2015, a total of 55 judges are present in the High Court, consisting of 45 permanent and 10 extra judges. The courts building is also called as the Palace of Justice. Punjab and Haryana High Court was previously called as Lahore High Court, which was founded on 21st March 1919. The court jurisdiction included undivided Delhi and Punjab. Prior to the independence of India on 15th August 1947, a different High Court of Punjab was formed, which is located in Shimla. This had its authority over Punjab, Delhi and now Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. On January 17th, 1955, the Court was shifted to its current location in Chandigarh.
