November 11 to be celebrated as National Education Day via CBSE

The Central Board for Secondary Education commonly known as the CBSE have come to the decision to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter and first education minister of independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on the 11th of November via recalling his contribution to the cause of education. The 11th of November will henceforth be celebrated as the National Education Day also abbreviated as NED in India.

In sync with the need of the current hour the current year’s theme of NED celebration will be that of ‘Skill-awareness and empowerment’. The main aim of the NED celebration is to ensure that the students are exposed to a variety of projects that will aid in the strengthening of their sustainability in the existing environment and also enhance their thinking, social and emotional skills, become self-motivated learners, get equipped with vocational skills, become part of new generation learners who focus on sustainable life skills, and make a positive impact on society.


The sub-themes of the projects will be inclusive of sanitation in as well as around the school, inclusive education, entrepreneurship, promoting health and well-being, empowering girl child, adopting a school, gender sensitization, environmental issues, and 21st century skills.

As a part of the celebration process the schools can also organize sustainable long term programmes in the promotion of skill building among the students. Sugandh Sharma who is the additional director of the research and innovation of CBSE stated that “Community outreach, entrepreneurial projects, vocational skills, life Skills and Industry based projects are also being integrated into the school curriculum. There is a distinct paradigm shift emerging in the education sector of new India.”

The schools can also organize seminars, symposium, essay writing, elocution competitions, workshops as well as rallies that portray and emphasize the importance of literacy and the nation’s commitment towards all the aspects of education.

The schools will be able to register via the CBSE website the link for which is on or prior to the 6th of November in order to participate in the programme.
