UGC to increase SRF, JRF research fellowships

University Grants Commission (UGC), a regulatory body over the higher education system in India, has notified to revise the fellowship amount details of Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) and Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) in Social Sciences, Humanities, and Science. As per the increased fellowship amounts, the JRF researchers will be granted Rs. 31,000 whereas the fellowship amount for SRF will be Rs. 35,000.
Earlier, the JRF and SRF fellowship amounts were Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 28,000 respectively.
The UGC Commission published a notice stating, “In the 539th meeting of UGC held on 26th February 2019, the panel considered and approved the proposal for revised fellowship amounts. The proposal was prepared under the UGC Scheme for Junior Research Fellowship/Senior Research Fellowship in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (UGC-NET).”
It was also mentioned in the notice that the revised fellowship amounts will be applicable from 1st January 2019.
According to UGC, the HRA is improved as per the Indian Government norms for the rate of 8%, 16% and 24% as applicable at the locations where the research fellows are involved in the research.
As per the notice, “there will be no change in the other terms and conditions mentioned in UGC XII Plan JRF doctrine.”
