Noida 10th October 2018: There was the suspension of a student from the Central University of Kerala for the Facebook post. He attempted to suicide but now out of danger as per the statement of the medical experts of District Hospital in Kanhangad.
On September 6, Akhil Thazhath, a second-year Post Graduate student of International Relations and Politics, was expelled from the university by vice-chancellor G Gopa Kumar.
On September 18, the meeting was called by the VC with people’s representatives to discourse about various intricacies and troubles that have surrounded the university, including the suspension of Akhil Thazhath. In the meeting, VC Gopa Kumar has provided the assurance to MP P Karunakaran and MLA K Kunhiraman that this decision of dismissal of the student would be forwarded to the apex decision-making body of the university – Executive Council for further approval.
Later on, the university came into the limelight for another case of barring Thazhath from entering the university campus as stated by the students.
Siddharth Raveendran, a student leader of the SFI, quoted, “After few days of the dismissal when Akhil came to the university to know about the decision of the management, the security personnel restricted him from entering the campus. Then he had gone to his other friends of the university who were suspended earlier from the hostel with the accusations of raising protests in demand of better amenities.”
He further added, “Akhil left the place next day morning and had visited the playground in Periya where the students play football.”
A student stated that Akhil was with us for some time and then he went to an isolated place. When we all tried to search him, we came to know that he has cut his wrist with a piece of glass. He was immediately sent to the district hospital.
The students also discovered a note from the pocket of Thazhath which was stained with blood. In his note, Akhil has blamed the authorities of the university for this attempt to suicide.
The words of the note that was written by distressed Akhil are – “I cannot write in words about the kind of agony, cruelty and ignorance I am feeling right now. Whenever I decide anything, I remember the faces of the university management and other authorities who have hurt me a lot.”
Further, blaming some officials of the university with names, he said that they were not only making him the target but were also anti social.
Thazhath was pursuing the integrated course in the Department of International Relations and Politics, and was now undergoing the second year of the Post Graduate programme. His friends also quoted that Akhil was frightened with the move of the university after Facebook Post and also worried that they would take away his bachelor’s certificate.
