Jammu and Kashmir State Administrative Council (SAC) has announced to open 40 new degree colleges in Jammu & Kashmir state. After a meeting held on Wednesday, the decision to start new degree colleges in the state was taken by the Governor Satya Pal Malik. These 40 new colleges will also include the 26 colleges which were already sanctioned by the government. The remaining 14 colleges are yet to be sanctioned by the apex authority.
Due to lacking in number of degree colleges in the state of J&K, a large number of students face problem to get admission in degree programs and they move toward other Indian state. After opening of these 40 new degree colleges in the state, number of students who get benefit of college education will increase and it will also raise the gross enrolment. As per the statement made by the official from SAC, a degree college in Drass and two administrative staff colleges will open in Srinagar and Jammu.
The students from J&K state have been continuously requesting to open a few colleges which offer degree program. Finally, Jammu and Kashmir State Administrative Council (SAC) has acknowledged the need of degree colleges in the state and decided to come up with 40 new degree colleges in the state.
The Spokesperson from the Jammu and Kashmir State Administrative Council (SAC) has said that the decision was taken after acknowledging the need of more degree colleges to provide access to the deprived sections of the society. SAC has also decided to organize a committee which will be responsible to finalize the phasing of the sanctioned colleges.
The official from SAC has also said that the constituted committee will examine and recommend a the basic the feasibility of likely locations, keeping in view the prescribed norms, besides factors like student-teacher ratio, faculty deployment, enrollment, geographical conditions and financial requirement. Based on these recommendations, the Higher Education Department, under the state government, will check the recommendations and will approve the operationalisation of the new colleges and already sanctioned.
Jammu and Kashmir State Administrative Council (SAC) is an apex body under the government of J&K to approve any demand and take decisions regarding sanctioning the amount.
