10 – 09 – 2018, Noida: From the DM crossing in Sector 27 on Friday, the police of Sector 20 arrested five men in cockcrow, with illicit marijuana. The accused were arrested with 100 Kg marijuana worth at least 20 lakhs. According to police, the marijuana caught from five accused, who were travelling in a silver colored SX4 Marurti Suzuki, was smuggled in the city to sell it near the educational institutions. The drugs were brought in from Bihar via Varanasi, Jaunpur, Lucknow, and Agra by road.
As per Police officials, they received the forewarning regarding the same from their sources and planned accordingly to catch the accused red-handed. In the words of Ajay Pal Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, “Checking was going on at the Rajnigandha crossing. We received information that the accused were carrying almost one quintal marijuana and were coming from Bihar. Accordingly, a check point was set up near the DM camp office crossing. They came from the direction of Atta Peer and were arrested around 3:48 am”.
SSP added that the drugs were hidden in the boot of the car of the accused and they used the stepney to obscure them. The police said, “we also seized the car they were travelling in”. Along with the marijuana, the police also recovered 10, 000 cash, four country – made pistols, and five mobile phones from the accused.
Ajay Pal Sharma said that they are in the search for other suspects, and added that, “we have information about two people, Guddu and Bittu, who were allegedly waiting at Sector 22 for this material. We also have information about three of their suppliers in Bihar, one of whom is currently living in our district. They are on the run”. The accused, during the police interrogation, revealed that they were on their way to supply the illicit items to their two co – conspirator.
The drugs were being supplied to youngsters near educational institutions in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar, according to the statements given by the accused. “They would target students from various colleges in Bisrakh and Noida,” Ajay Pal Sharma said.
In the words of Manoj Kumar Pant, SHO, Sector 20 police station, “we are working to identify more cases against the accused. Though they claim this was their first offence, we have reason to believe they have been smuggling drugs for nearly ten years”. A case has been registered against the accused under sections of the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and the Arms Act.
One of the five arrested men, Dharam Raj Kumar has been identified as supposedly the leader of the gang. The police said arrested accused are residents of Bihar. All the five arrested accused were produced before the magistrate and then sent to the jail. SSP Ajay Pal Sharma said, “one of them, Rocky Kumar, was living in Bihari market in Bisrakh,”
