NOIDA 12th September 2018: Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi i.e. IITM is organizing 15 days workshop for Himachal Pradesh girl students. The Department of Science and Technology which comes under Government of India has introduced the Vigyan Jyoti scheme to aware the girls living in the state of Himachal Pradesh to opt for engineering as their career.
The workshop organized by the Department of Science and Technology has been started from 10th September 2018 and will continue until 22 September 2018 for the admirable girls hailing from the state of Himachal Pradesh. However, the purpose of conducting such workshop is to motivate the 30 girls who are selected to join the field of Science and Technology followed with counseling that will be provided to them for various career options through interaction, expert lectures etc.
The Director of IIT Mandi, Prof. Timonthy A Gonsalves while inaugurating alleged “Job of an engineer is to make their life easier. For a long time, it was thought that the field of engineering needs physical strength that is why we have less number of female engineers.”
Further, the professor added that they encourage more girls to opt for engineering in order to have better solutions to the problem. He wished if these entire workshops would encourage the girls for the engineering field and post finishing the workshop most of the girls would choose the field of engineering for pursue their career in.
Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi has selected these girl students from government schools of Himachal Pradesh on the basis of their performances in Class 10th. However, the main motto of organizing this workshop is to introduce the students to all the possible areas of science along with the importance of each individual field for society.
Additionally, Dr. Arti Kashyap, the coordinator of Vigyan Jyoti, IIT Mandi said that the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has taken this wonderful initiative to bring more girls in the field of Science and Technology. Further, she added that being a native Himachal she knew that the people living in this state are still unaware of the vast opportunities that are available for the bright girls of the State. Moreover, through this workshop, girl students will get exposure and can choose to make career in the Science and Technology stream.
Besides all above, the Institute for these 30 selected girls has also planned two days educational trip to Pushpa Gujral Science City, Jalandhar for inculcating the scientific proficiency and temperament among these young girl students as the subject covered in the Science City comprises of agriculture, energy, space, nuclear science, robotics and many more.
