IIT Kharagpur and Carleton University Signs MoU on Academic Partnerships

On Tuesday at IIT Kharagpur extension campus, IIT Kharagpur and Carleton University of Canada has signed a pact called Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic partnership in order to support research collaboration, capacity building and other academic partnerships. Now, both institutions will focus on opportunities in student exchange, faculty exchange and professional development programs. IIT Kharagpur and Carleton University can now explore the possibilities of collaborative masters programs and can jointly supervised Ph.D students.

The signed MoU allow both institutions to establish interaction among faculty on joint research projects and research visits and joint applications for research funding from external agencies when required. The two institutions are planning to offer distance mode programs in data analytics, cyber security and management leadership that would be jointly taught by subject experts from both institutions. Department of Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering at IIT-Kharagpur and Department of Systems and Computer Engineering at Carleton University are discussing to offer dual-degree programs for masters and doctoral students.

Currently, Carleton University is focusing to in areas such as autonomous vehicles and technology enablers for smart cities. Similarly, IIT Kharagpur has been similarly carrying research on intelligent transportation, digital convergence and centre of excellence, future of cities in the field of artificial intelligence.

On Tuesday, Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur, Professor Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya said “We are happy to have the MoU signed with Carleton University. We look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration with different units of the university”.

Associate Vice-President, Research and International at Carleton University, Dr. Karen Schwartz said “I am excited about this new partnership. This is the beginning of a long-term collaboration, having students from IIT KGP come to Canada and Carleton students coming to India and launching of exciting professional development programmes”.
