IIM Udaipur has decided to comply with the NDA government reservation policy for 10% EWS from a general category from the next academic session i.e. 2020-21. Under this reservation category, the 10 per cent seats will be reserved for the general category candidates from economically weaker sections.
IIM Udaipur Chairman, Pankaj Patel said, “we had already given 5% reservation in 2019-20 session. The announcement was made after we kicked-off the admission process. Hence, now we have come up with a mutual conclusion that the 10% reservation policy will be effective from the 2020-21 session.
Most of the IIMs were not so happy with the decision of the NDA Government to provide an additional 10% reservation. They would need to increase per batch strength and it affects their faculty-student teacher ratio.
“Several alumni from other IIMs including Harsha Bhogle have joined the board. We have attained important milestones while moving forward,” he said. “All our board members are pioneers in the industry and are bringing in a practicable course which will make a difference for us,” he added.
When he was asked about the impact of slumping economy on the placement, he said, “It’s true that we can’t be insulated from the downturn impact.” Still, he was quite hopeful for the placement of the colleges that lay emphasis on digital marketing analytics and leadership capabilities. According to him, such colleges are less likely to be hurt.
