Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has issued the official orders to five higher education institutes regarding its announcement for declaring them as Institutions of Eminence (IoE). The decision was made after the recommendation of higher education regulator University Grants Commission (UGC) and an Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) constituted by the Government.
EEC, under the chairmanship of N Gopalaswami, recommends 10 public and 10 private IoEs. IIT Madras, Banaras Hindu University, IIT Kharagpur, University of Delhi and the University of Hyderabad have been tagged as the Institutions of Eminence (IoE) by MHRD.
Also, the ministry issued LOIs (Letters of Intent) to Vellore Institute of Tech, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Tech, Jamia Hamdard, and Bharti Institute Satya Bharti Foundation sends their progress regarding their preparedness for being nominated as IOEs, as per the report of ANI.
Two state universities, Jadavpur University (West Bengal) and Anna University (Tamil Nadu) were also recommended by the empowered committee to be announced as IOEs. On this, MHRD has asked their respective state governments to describe their commitment towards their contribution under IoE scheme.
