After few days of the time when CBSE has given the direction to its affiliated schools to conduct adequate activities to observe ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’, UGC has also issued the same circular to Higher Education Institutes. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas which is also called as National Unity Day is intended to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
As per the circular, “The occasion imparts us a golden chance feel the hidden strength and resilience of our country to bravely face the actual and potential threats to the integrity, unity and security of our nation.”
There are certain activities that are recommended for the Universities and affiliated colleges such as ‘Run for Unity’ by the students, staff and teachers with the note of Unified Bharat. One more activity advised by UGC is ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ pledge taking ceremony and quizzes, debates and competition on related topics. These activities were also recommended by CBSE to schools.
The colleges where there is the existence of NCC unit, UGC has recommended to invite Army and Ex-Army Officers to share their thoughts on National Unity, Security, Integrity and any other topic pertaining to the same.
The universities and colleges are also allowed to upload the video clippings of the activities on the Activity Monitoring Portal.
Apart from the circular, the Rashtriya Ekta Pledge has also been sent to the colleges and universities.
