Educational institutions mandatory to implement 10% quota for poor

NOIDA: The centre has instructed all the universities and other educational institutions to introduce 10 per cent reservation for the general category economically weaker section from the next academic session. The HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, while addressing a press conference on Sunday in Pune, said an official memorandum has been issued to implement this new reservation policy.

Earlier this week, the government had issued a memorandum to implement this reservation policy.

As per the HRD minister, all the institutes and universities operational at state as well as national level have been informed to implement this quota in the upcoming academic year.

HRD Ministry has raised such instructions after the Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 to grant 10 reservation in education and government jobs to economically weaker sections in the general category was approved in the parliament.

The individuals from the general category who have an annual income of below Rs. 8 lakh and possess less than 5 acres of agricultural land come under this reservation scheme.
