DUSU Election Results 2018: ABVP Bags 3 Seats, NSUI Wins 1

After a long day high intensity drama at the DU vote counting centre, DUSU result announced. The result came out with happiness for Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) as the party was elected in 3 central panel posts out of 4 while National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) emerged victorious in one post. ABVP’s Ankit Baisoya has defeated NSUI’s Sunny Chhillar with a margin of 1744 votes in the presidential election while Shakti Singh, also from ABVP, has won the vice president post with a margin of 7673 votes. NSUI candidate Akash Choudhary has won the post of secretary and ABVP candidates Jyoti Choudhary was elected for the post of joint secretary. On the other hand, AISA and CYSS decided to fight together but failed to win a single seat in DUSU election this year.

DUSU 2018 elections were considered very important by the national political parties; it was a best way to know the mood of public before the national election to be held next year.  DUSU result 2018 will satisfy the BJP as its student political wing ABVP bags 3 central panel posts out of 4.

Secretary post winner Akash Choudhary from NSUI has alleged that fair elections were not conducted and data of seven EVMs were missing. The Chief Electoral Officer in Delhi has clarified that the EVMs used in DUSU elections have not been issued by the Election Commission and it seems to have been procured privately.

PTI reported “the result of the Delhi University election will help major parties understand the mood of young voters ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. A member of the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) said the DUSU elections are like the “semi-final for the Lok Sabha elections” and will show what the young, educated voter wants. A member of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) said the election results will help the general public and the media to draw a conclusion on the mood of voters and also give an idea of what is the trend in national politics”.
