NOIDA- As per the Delhi University officials, the varsity is planning to introduce online system to conduct entrance exams from next session onwards. The discussion took place earlier in this year in a meeting of Admissions Committee of the varsity and the point of organizing the online entrance examination was raised so that the students who missed to meet the minimum marks criteria of DU can also have a chance to get admission in Delhi University by cracking the online exam.
An official anonymously said that the proposal to conduct entrance exam online was given by the Department of Commerce. Some members put their objection against online exam with a reason that the students from remote areas might not be well-acquainted with the computer.
The official mentioned that the committee decided to conduct the offline as well as online exam for DU admissions from the next session.
There is a buzz that the Delhi University is also thinking about shifting the responsibility of conducting the entrance exam to National Testing Agency. The varsity is just in consideration for doing the same- final decision is yet to come. According to the official, the declaration will be made through an official notification.
Some of the panel members of the committee were not in the support of online entrance examinations due to extra cost and less knowledge of students from far-flung areas about computer handling. But most of the members were in support of online exam so that the students who fail to meet the cut-off criteria f Delhi University can also get a chance to live their dream of DU campus life.
After the declaration by Jawaharlal Nehru University to conduct entrance exam, the students criticized it a lot and addressed the move of the administration as a ‘scam’. The JNU students union was concerned about the cost incurred by online exam that too when the varsity is facing fund problems.
