Delhi Government School Teacher amongst 50 contenders for Global Teacher Prize 2019

Arti Qanungo, Government School Teacher has got selected as a finalist in the race for Global Teacher from India. However, out of 50 finalists, two finalists have made their position for the finals who are Ms. Arti Qanungo, a government school teacher from Delhi and the fellow of her is Dr. Swaroop Sampat, an English Teacher at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Delhi. Coming to the Delhi Government Schools, which have been in the limelight in the past few years, through extreme modification. Also, the Delhi Government has played an important role to bring revolution in the state-sponsored education by introducing happiness curriculum and renovating the infrastructure to provide the best learning environment to the students.

Since Arti Qanungo made her position among Top 50 finalists for Global Teacher Prize 2019, the prominent persons such as Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of India and Manish Sisodia, Education Minister for Delhi Government were among the few who congratulated her on the social media platform and also wrote messages of appreciation encouragement.

Mrs. Arti Qanungo teaches the students of standard 6th to 10th and through her way of teaching, she makes her students learn English language in the best possible and easy in manner. Other than imparting knowledge of the English Language, Arti interacts with her students on the issues of menstrual hygiene and also help the girl students to feel free to discuss or share her experiences, thoughts, and feelings on the same. To promote awareness among the girls regarding menstrual hygiene and challenges of Adolescence, Arti has also scripted and directed several street plays.

However, this is not the first time when Arti Qanungo came into limelight because in the past as well, she has received number of awards like Teacher Innovator of the Year 2018 from the University of Roehampton in collaboration with STIR Education, the Nation Builder Award in 2016 from the Rotary India Literacy Mission, and the State Teacher Award 2017 from the Directorate of Education. Further, whilst interacting with Arti, she said that if she wins the Global Teacher Prize 2019, she will take the initiative for a student exchange program and create sustainable women entrepreneur groups.
