NOIDA- Due to the predictions of extreme rainfall, the holiday has been announced for all schools and colleges in the city and district of Chennai. Shanmugha Sundaram, the Chennai collector has directed all schools and colleges to be closed on Thursday, November 22, 2018. This move was taken last night owing to the expected heavy rainfall in the city. There was also the announcement of holiday in the district of Kancheepuram. Moreover due to this, the examinations of the Madras University that were supposed to be started from November 22, 2018 have been cancelled. The authority will soon publish the new dates of the examination.
As per the report of Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, Heavy Rainfall or Thundershower is expected to occur in various regions of Chennai during the whole day.
The forecast of Regional Meteorological Centre indicates the occurrence of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Chennai. The Government has thus taken the initiative of closing down the schools and colleges as safety measure.
Presently, the thing that is not known is the impact of the order on the examination of Anna University that is scheduled on November 22 2018 in Chennai. The previous date of the examination was November 15 and was postponed to November 22 owing to the Cyclone Gaja.
As per the official sources, the examinations in the university for the districts of Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai districts (College Codes: 8201, 8202, 8203, 8204, 8208, 8211, 8215, 8216, 8217, 8222, 8226, 8123, 8128, 8144, 8302, 9103, 9109, 9112, 9114, 9116, 9117, 9124 and 9126) will not be held on November 22 and November 23. The authority will publish the new dates for the exams in these districts.
