AMU Rusticates three Kashmiri Students after observing their Prayers for a Militant

Noida: As per the reports, on October 12, Aligarh Muslim University has rusticated three Kashmiri students as they were allegedly attempting a prayer meeting for the militant that was killed by the forces in Jammu and Kashmir, a day before.

These two students were charged for agitation when their video become viral in which they were demanding ‘azadi’ (freedom) at the time of a prayer meeting though it is yet to clear whether these were the same students who were suspended.

A scholar at the Aligarh Muslim University, Mannan Bashir Wani has joined militancy in January and was one of the two Hizbul Mujahideen militants that were killed during the encounter in Handwara town.

As per the sources, the moment the encounter news of Mannan Bashir Wani went viral, the Kashmiri students asked other students on social channels to visit the library of the university for meeting. All these students gathered there and started the funeral prayers.

Professor Shafey Kidwai, the spokesperson of the university, focused upon the incident and quoted that the students were involved in the prayer meeting and the staff of the university and student union tried hard to stop them. This has resulted into the heated arguments between them.

He further said that after the incident, the Kashmiri students were taken out of the area and the university has taken an immediate move of suspending three of them. A committee of three members was formulated to probe into the matter deeply so that the appropriate move will be taken accordingly.

Aligarh Muslim University has been asked by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to prepare a report on the incident.

The MLA from Langate constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in Kupwara, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, has raised an appeal to the university to stop harassing the students from the state. He also stated that holding funeral prayers does not come under any criminal act as per paw. He put allegation on the university officials that they have taken this initiative out of the pressure made by the BJP leaders.

Faizul Hasan, the president of Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union quoted that the acts pertaining to the terror or in support of the militants will not be permissible inside the campus and the union will not tolerate the defamation of the university.

Satish Gautam who is the MP of Bharatiya Janata Party from Aligarh stated that the students who were doing the prayer meeting inside the university campus should not be allowed to re enter the premises.

In the mean time, the Joint Resistance Leadership announced the complete shutdown in the Kashmir Valley to mourn for the death of Wani. In Srinagar, all the offices, schools, colleges and public transport were closed.
