ABVP comes in Power at University of Hyderabad

Noida 7th October 2018: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad bagged all the top positions by dominating the University of Hyderabad (UoH) students union elections. It’s quite an elated feeling among the ABVP member to come in power after an exile of eight years. The university president seat has also been bagged by ABVP this year. The 75% turnout of the students was reported in the election held on 5th October, which is an overwhelming response.

ABVP’s Arti N Nagpal garnered 1633 votes to mark her victory for the position of president. Her opponents- United Democratic Alliance’s G Sreeja Vasthavi and Student’s Federation of India’s Erram Kumar failed to make the victory challenging for Arti and she won with a significant margin.

The other top-notch posts like general secretary, vice president, joint secretary, sports secretary, and cultural secretary were also swept by ABVP contestants. Last time, such a remarkable victory was marked by a single student body in university elections in 2010. ABVP members are on cloud nine after this dominating victory and have termed it historic. They take this win as “huge breather” as ABVP had lost the last two elections by minimal margin.

IN 2016 election, after the unfortunate suicide of Rohit Vemula- PhD scholar and Dalit student, Union Front for Social Justice swept most of the major seats. The prime agenda of this collaborative was to fight against the class and caste discrimination within the educational institutions. It was led and administered by a group of associated with Ambedkar Students Association. It is said that their agenda helped them gain empathy from the students that year.

This year, this group represented their participation under the flagship of Alliance for Social Justice but had to walk away from all top positions due to ABVPs impact.
