NOIDA- IIT or Indian Institute of Technology-Madras has witnessed a steady increment in its pre-placement offers for last three years and the number of students taking up the offers in 2018 to 2019 is recorded as 130. Last year the placements were recorded as 114. PPO or Pre-placement offers are basically the offers that the students get post summer internships. The main season of placement at various IITs usually start from December 1 every year. In the academic year 2015-16, the number of PPOs was 69, in 2016-17, it was 73 and in the year 2017-18, the number has been increased to 114, as per the report published by the institute.
The credit for this enhancement in PPOs goes to the strong internship programme and outstanding performance of the students in the programme. Manu Santhanam, Training and Placement Advisor of the Institute stated, “As the number of PPOs is getting increased, it is the clear indication of the best placement season. The slow increase in PPOs from past few years is also because of the recruiters who have focused upon the internship programme.”
As per the release, from all 130 PPOs this year, the contribution of core and R & D sector is 61 percent while that of analytics, finance and consulting is 19 percent , 14 percent by Fast-Moving Consumer Goods and 6 percent from IT or information technology. The companies that have given the maximum number of offers include Qualcomm with 19 PPOs, Microsoft with 9 PPOs and Samsung Research (Delhi, Noida & Bangalore) with 16 PPOs.
