JEE Main 2018 controversy: Did CBSE Really Cheat From Narayana Mock Tests?

12 Apr, 2018

The JEE Main 2018 offline exam was conducted by the CBSE on 8th April 2018. Till now there was no controversy regarding the conduct of JEE Main 2018 exam. But on 10th April 2018, the JEE Main 2018 aspirants claimed that CBSE has used the identical questions from Narayana 2016 mock tests. According to the allegations of use of identical questions in JEE Main 2018 offline exam, there were 8 questions in the Physics section of the paper that were similar to the mock tests of the 2016 mock test of Narayana coaching institute. This controversy came like an embarrassment to CBSE after the paper leaks of class 10th and class 12th boards.

The JEE Main 2018 aspirants who appeared in the JEE Main 2018 offline exam which was conducted on 8th April 2018 have complained that a section of JEE Main 2018 offline exam question paper appeared to be alike to the questions asked in the mock test conducted in various coaching institutes of Narayana academy in 2016. According to reports, there were at least nine objective type questions in Set- C of Physics section of the paper, that were value-identical to the questions asked in the mock test held by the Hyderabad headquartered coaching institute. This information went viral within hours of being shared and forwarded on Tuesday evening, i.e. 10th April 2018.

According to some students, not only the questions were same but their answer options were also identical for some questions. Ques.64, 67, 77, 78, 81, 83, 86 and 87 are claimed to be similar to that of questions in the Narayana 2016 mock test.

In words of public relations officer of CBSE, Rama Sharma, “We have received a word on this and the director has been alerted. We are awaiting a statement from him”.

The officials of Narayana Coaching Academy however, refuted the claims. Spokesperson of the Narayana coaching center, Srinath said, “These questions were a part of our ‘grand finale’ test a few years ago in 2016. Similar questions are there in some text books also.” The coaching chain’s IIT coordinator Ashok Kumar Veda said, “Our research team have received these forwards and it looks like someone has doctored our question paper to malign our image.” The similarity of the questions left several other coaching classes perplexed too. The MD and CEO of Rao IIT Academy, Vinay Kumar said “We are going to ask all our students to complain about this to CBSE. I too am personally going to write to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar and demand a probe”.
