JEE Main is a national level common entrance exam to be conducted under control of NTA in online mode at various exam centres across the world.     JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2019 is determined for the candidates who are willing to appear in JEE Main 2019 exam. The candidates have to fulfill the eligibility criteria to be considered eligible for JEE Main 2019 exam. Those candidates who will fail to fulfill any of the prescribed parameters will not be able to take up JEE Main exam. The candidates can check detailed JEE Main eligibility criteria 2019 below. As per the official notification, the eligibility to appear in the JEE Main 2019 exam is as follows-

    Age Limit – For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed XII examination in 2017, 2018 or appearing in 2019 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) examination – 2019. The candidates should satisfy themselves about the eligibility of age limit requirements of the Institutes in which he/she is desirous of taking admission.

    Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE) – Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 or 2018; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2019 are eligible to appear in both January, 2019 and April, 2019 JEE Main 2019 Examination. Candidates who passed Class 12th/ Qualifying examinationin 2016 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2020 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2019.

    Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE) – Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE Main 2019. The candidates who have taken four subjects are not permitted to write JEE Main 2019 and if such candidates appear in JEE Main 2019 by furnishing wrong information, their rank/result will not be declared.

    Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board – Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank as explained above in section 2.10subject to the condition that the candidate should havesecured at least 75% marks in the 12thclass examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12thclass examination.

    Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech. & B. Arch. /B.Planning Courses in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs shall be as under.

    B.E/B.TECH. – Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjectsalong with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/  Technical Vocationalsubject.

    B.ARCH./B.PLANNING – Passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics.

    Eligibility for Admission to Other Institutions – The above mentioned policy could also be adopted by other Technical Institutions participating in counselling through JoSAA/CSAB. In case a State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to State Universities, the State may prepare separate rank list based on criteria decided by them.

    Number of seats in various institutions – For all admission related procedures/queries, the candidates are advised to refer the website of JoSAA, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) or the concerned State government/institute after declaration of ranks of JEE (Main)–2019. The letter/e-mails/grievances/RTI cases/Court cases regarding admission related procedures/queries will not be entertained by NTA.

    Reservation of seats – As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

    (i) Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non Creamy Layer (NCL)

    (ii)Scheduled Castes (SC)

    (iii)Scheduled Tribes (ST)

    (iv)Persons with Disability (PwD)with 40% or more disability

    Benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs and CFTIs shall be given only to those classes/castes/tribes which are in the respective central list published by the Govt. of India. For admission to State Engineering colleges who have opted for admission through JEE (Main)-2019, the reservation rules of that State shall apply. The letter/e-mails/grievances/RTI cases/Court cases regarding reservation criteria will not be entertained by NTA.

    Ans. Candidates falling under the JEE Main eligibility criteria 2019 mentioned above for JEE Main exam will be considered eligible for the exam. In case any discrepancy is found in the eligibility of the candidate, the candidature will be cancelled by the authority.

    Ques. I have passed in 2017/2018 and will be appearing for improvement in 2019, what should I fill in the academic details section?

    Ans. Select the year of passing class 12th as 2017/2018 and enter the roll number, the name of the board and other details of 2017/2018 in the application form. Select ‘yes’ in the column – appearing for improvement examination. The roll number of improvement examination 2019 may be filled in the month of March at the time of downloading JEE Main admit card.

    Ques. The state I passed my 12th class and the state in which I will be appearing for improvement are different. What is the State of Eligibility for the Improvement Candidates/Institution Abroad/NIOS?

    Ans. If you have passed Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, your state code of eligibility will be from where you have originally passed your examination and not the state from where you appeared for improvement. The State of Eligibility for Indian nationals passing the examination from an institution abroad will be determined on the basis of the permanent address in India as given in the Passport of the candidate. The candidate who has passed or will be appearing for class 12th boards from NIOS should select the State of Eligibility according to the state in which their study center is located. The State of Eligibility is not applicable for the candidates belonging to Nepal/Bhutan/Foreign/OCI/PIO.

      • Yes, you can appear in JEE Main 2019. But while the admission process, you will have to show the 10+2 qualified mark sheet with a total aggregate of 75% (if belonging to General category and crack JEE Main 2019 Cutoff).

    1. If i gave improvement in 2018 for 4 subjects and got 80%, but not come in top 20 percentile .is it acceptable for getting into nit.
