Let’s have a look at the detailed study as well as some preparation tips of GD and PI:

NMAT 2019 GD PI – Group Discussion (Case Discussion):

Group Discussion is the second stage of the admission process where the candidates have to appear for this round. The shortlisted candidates will be divided into two groups consisting of 12- 15 candidates in each group and a topic will be provided on which they have to speak in for or against or in another way you can say that the candidates exchange and share their ideas on a given topic of a common issue. Therefore the candidates will be given 5 minutes of time to think on the topic before the beginning of the discussion whereas each candidate will be given 15 – 20 minutes to speak on the given topic. There will be 3 panels of the examiner to measure the aspirant’s knowledge on the particular topic, leadership quality, and thought process as well as how active you are throughout the session. Also, the candidate’s activeness will be checked based on your involvement in both listening and meaningful speaking. Moreover, the group must follow pre-defined and established standards. Group discussion topics are basically related to situations in the professional world. The topics that were asked in the group discussion round are as given below

    • iPods have killed the music industry
    • IPL has been reduced to a soap opera
    • Sometimes less is better than more
    • Relevance of odd-even scheme

Suggestion: When five minutes of time is given for reading the case then the candidates must note down the major points on which they desire to speak. The candidates are advised to be assertive but not aggressive as this put a negative impact on the examiner. However, the candidate’s focus must be on delivering structure and direction to the discussion whereas always try to be one of the first three speakers and don’t put yourself in an argument. Always keep an eye contact with the candidates in your group. Moreover, the candidates must prepare by discussing the topics with your friends or classmate as you will be able to develop speaking and debating skills. The more you practice the preparation will be best.
