Bachelor of Dental Surgery – BDS Course is one of the most trendy and chosen degree of dentists (doctors). The BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the only professional and educational program of dental surgery in India. It is equal to the MBBS and gives you the “Dr” domain. In the medical educational field, it is the second option of the students after MBBS course.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery – BDS Course Details

The BDS is a 5 year (4 years academic education + 1 year mandatory internship) UG degree program.

BDS is one of the most wanted courses after 12th in medical field. There are a lot of reputed universities in India which offer the BDS course.

The BDS course included the basic subjects like physiology, human anatomy & dental material, prosthodontics, microbiology, embryology, biochemistry & histology, general & dental pharmacology and periodontics, pathology, orthodontics, pedodontics and dentistry.

The students, who have cleared their 10+2 examination and have Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English in 12th stream, can go for the BDS course.

It is the course which would have hands on teaching in the field of dentistry for the period of 5 years. The students would get a chance to network with the patient and would get practical knowledge of  the diseases.

The students need to achieve a minimum of 50% marks (40% in the case of reserved category) in 10+2 and need to appear for an entrance examination organized by a range of universities and institutions like AFMC, AIIMS, AMU, AIPDT, and CBSE etc

After finishing the BDS course, the dental graduates are permitted to use the term Doctor before his or her name as the prefix “Dr.”.

A BDS graduate may go for the PG degree program primary to the Domain MDS (Master of Dental Surgery).

There are job opportunities to work in the US and the UK in the medical field with handsome salaries. You can set up your own clinic and earn around Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 per month.
